No Newsletter Please

By EF Cussins

Back in the early 90’s I was responsible for the putting together and distribution of anewsletter newsletter for a small non-profit. That non-profit grew and the publishing of that monthly newsletter became a full time job.

It was my responsibility to gather articles, arrange them with pictures in what was called a proof. Then have them printed. Once a month I would get group of volunteers together to help me fold and put address labels each newsletter. Finally, I took all those folded newsletters to the Post Office to be mailed out.

In 2000, I was again doing a monthly newsletter. This time it was via email. The basic process was the same. Well, almost the same. Then once it was put together, it was distributed via email. No folding , sticking on address labels, and going to the Post Office.

Today, I all I have to worry about is content, and it is five days a week. A blog post takes care of the content. Twitter and Facebook take care of the distribution, at only a fraction of the cost, and effort.

People don’t really read paper or email newsletters, any more. They do read posts an update on Facebook and Twit in Twitter. In several ways this is better than publishing a monthly newsletter.

  • Content can be delivered more often
  • A larger number of people have to potential of seeing the content
  • Specials, deals and coupon can be disturbed at a lower cost
  • Interaction with clients and potential clients
  • Business leader are generated more easily

Case in point is TheShoppingNazi.com
