  • Italy Quake kills dozens - L’AQUILA, Italy was hit with a 6.+ earthquake. There are many historical building. From what I have seen very few were earthquake proof. 70 people are currently report as dead.
  • Skype the Largest Long Distance Carrier - Skype is now the largest long distance phone carrier. Skype the Largest Long Distance Carrier. Skype’s cross-border traffic grew approximately 41 percent in 2008, to 33 billion minutes — equivalent to 8 percent of combined international telephone + Skype traffic. Skype uses  wholesale carriers such as iBasis and Level 3 for handling its network traffic.
  • Vietnam and Cyber Crime - HANOI (AFP) - Computer crime cost Vietnam 1.76 billion dollars last year while many businesses do not even have security systems, state media reported. The lack of protection against cyber criminals led to almost 60 million computers being infected with viruses and 461 websites attacked by hackers. More than 40 computer crime cases resulted in losses worth 30 trillion dong (1.76 billion dollars), the Vietnam News Agency said, citing the Ministry of Public Security. Forty percent of businesses lack firewalls, 70 percent have no process to deal with information security problems and 85 percent do not have information security policies, the Ministry of Information and Communications’ Computer Emergency Response Team said, according to the report.

  • Merges and Not - Sun Mircosystems and IBM have been in talks of a merger. Twitter and Google are denying joint venture talks. Poor Yahoo is out in the cold. Maybe Microsoft will start talking with Yahoo again.
