The Cloud Ready for You?
When I ask a variety of individuals about their expectations when it comes to the use of the Cloud as a service, I hear words like ROI, Reliability, Security, Dependability, Bandwidth, and Accessibility. If there is not some kind of financial motivation, in today’s economy, the move to using will not happen to degree of growth.
When the question is asked what kind of business will survive our current economical crisis; customer service, no credit and good value are repeated through out all the financial experts. Ray Littrel goes through this in more detail in his latest article title, “Recession Proof Business Model“.
Saving money and a quick ROI (Return On Investment) is a major motivation for moving from desktop to applications in the Cloud. The frustration around the long learning curve can make going to the Cloud less attractive.
It is not good to have your desktop application running considerably faster than the equivalent application in any Cloud. Granted the server and internet maybe fast enough to do the work, but if the connection the internet service provider is 1/10 of the reset of the internet it does not help the image of the Cloud.
Then there is mental road block around not understanding a concept can be even bigger than the return on investment. I have seen many people slam on the brakes with the idea of taking their email from a POP based to web based. It does not matter if the web based email is a better fit or not.
The bottom-line is using the Cloud for most if not all your computer applications and data storage is a great new way of doing business and managing information.
There are very few businesses, today, that do not have computer. Either to manage their day to day operation or just to do manage their finances. There are whole business that are just tech. What I mean by tech is they are offering services to other individuals or businesses.
Is the Cloud ready for you? I will have to answer YES! The saving on capital is there. By in large there are many services that offer good large and small business applications. Data storage is as safe as storing the same data in a back room in you main office. Internet service provider are becoming more sensitive to the demands of businesses.
