Passwords Is Not An Inconvenience

By EF Cussins

We have all read or head about Sarah Palin getting her email hacked. After doing some research into why it was compromised. There was two main reason why.

  1. Security information for password reset you easy to guess and/or find out through a little research.
  2. The email was with Yahoo. I am not saying the Yahoo is an insecure service. I am saying that if you a high profile individual, you need to have a secure POP email account.

Many people I deal with on a day to day basis, consider having a password as something credit card companies and banks use to torture us. These people use the simplest and most hackable password they can get away it.

Having a password does not mean that the online banking that you do is going to be safe. It is not enough to depend upon your banks security policy to be enough to protect you.

In hopes to make you more diligent about your passwords, I would like to review why a good password along with changing a password on a regular basis is so important.

  • Passwords of 6 or more character is a the starting ground for a good password
  • Mixing upper and lower case letter double the length of time it takes to crack a password.
  • Adding one or more numbers exponentally makes the time to crack a password
  • If the account your are creating a password for allows symbols like dots, hyphens or others make the password even harder.
  • Changing a password at frequently random intervolts makes your secure account almost uncrackable.

I am not going to give all sorts of password rules without some tip or trick to help you create a good password.

  1. Take a sentence and/or phase of seven words or more. Use the first letter of that phrase as your password.
  2. Important words in that passphrase capitolaize as part of the password.
  3. Letters like use S, O, and L use numbers 5, 0, and 1 respectfully.
